October 4th, 2023 - Provizio is excited to announce its collaboration with exida, the world’s leading product certification and knowledge company, on a pilot certification project to validate safe machine learning technology. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the automation and machine learning industry, as it will see Provizio’s cutting-edge 5D Radar technology undergo a rigorous evaluation by exida, a global authority in product certification. The goal is to achieve ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 certifications for our flagship products, VizioPrime™ and VizioPlex Radar™, which are equipped with our proprietary AI and machine learning 5D Perception® technology.
This pioneering pilot project involves a comprehensive analysis, including a detailed design review utilising the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) technique, covering system, hardware, and software aspects. Additionally, a hardware Failure Modes, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) will be conducted along with exhaustive unit, integration, and validation testing. The objective is to validate assessment methods for compliance with functional safety standards, focusing on the integration of machine learning elements in safety-critical applications.
Dr. Molly O’Brien, CFSP, Senior Safety Engineer at exida, highlights the necessity of this endeavour: “As machine learning and artificial intelligence begin to impact safety critical designs, new approaches are needed to ensure safety needs are addressed. exida has pioneered techniques in this field and is currently working with high tech providers to support and validate assessment schemes that demonstrate the necessary dependability of machine learning in safety critical applications,”
At Provizio, our mission is to leverage advanced technology to eliminate road accidents and pave the way for ubiquitous autonomy. Our 5D Perception® Driving Platform harnesses GPU-based edge AI to merge our proprietary 5D Radar with vision systems and other top-tier sensors. This fusion enables an unprecedented ability to perceive the environment – seeing farther, wider, and through obstacles – thus detecting potential hazards in all weather conditions. This capability allows our OEM partners to apply predictive analytics in real time, enhancing driver behavior for safer outcomes.
“Safety is a key focus of Provizio, and one of the pillars on which our company is built on,” says Barry Lunn, our founder and CEO. “In creating technology to improve road safety and deliver Vision Zero, our team wants to ensure we are meeting the highest standards possible. Through this pilot with exida we hope to achieve ISO certification for our machine learning technology, providing users with an additional level of safety and security in our product.”
“Assessment and Certification to international function safety standards is an important step to ensure safety critical functions are properly implemented,” adds Chris O’Brien, CFSE, CEO at exida. “By meeting ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 a manufacturer demonstrates that their product and development process are robust and suitable for the demands that modern applications are placing on safety devices.”
Through this partnership, Provizio reaffirms its commitment to pioneering safer, more reliable autonomous driving technologies. By achieving these critical certifications, we aim to set a new benchmark in the industry for safety and reliability in machine learning-driven automotive technologies.
